PRIVATE Lessons: AGES 3 AND UP: All private lessons are 30 minutes and tailored to meet the needs of the participant and taught by our YMCA trained swim instructors. All times and dates will be organized between the instructor and the participant.

SEMI-PRIVATE Lessons: AGES 3 AND UP: All semi-private lessons are 30 minutes. The lessons are for 2-3 individuals of similar swimming ability. EACH participant has to pay the cost of the Semi-private fee. WE DO NOT PROVIDE PARTNERS. Semi-private lessons are tailored to meet the needs of the participants and taught by our YMCA trained swim instructors. All times and dates will be organized between the instructor and the participants.

Participants who are new to swimming will learn personal water safety and achieve basic swimming competency. Participants who have mastered the fundamentals will learn additional water safety skills and build stroke technique. All participants will develop skills that prevent chronic disease, increase social-emotional and cognitive well-being, and foster a lifetime of physical activity.

The swim instructor(s) will adapt swim instruction to each person’s swimming ability.

Class length is 40 minutes. Classes of only one person will be 1/2 hour in length.

Parent/Child swim lessons are for children aged 6-36 months. Parent or caregiver will be in the water with the child, learning how to be the child’s first teacher. This class teaches water introduction through positive parent and child interaction. The goal of this class is to help your child learn to be comfortable in the water and develop swim readiness skills through fun and confidence building experiences, while adults learn about water safety, drowning prevention, and the importance of supervision. Each lesson is 30 mins. long.

Ratio: 1:1 (one parent or caregiver per child)

Swim Strokes:

Classes of 2 or less may be combined while still teaching appropriate skills. Classes of only one student will be 1/2 hour in length.

Stage 2 Water Movement: In this class, children are taught skills that focus on buoyancy and movement in the water and learn how to safely exit in the event of falling in a body of water. If your child can do a front and back float on his or her own they are ready for Stage 3.

Stage 3 Water Stamina: In this class, children focus on swimming longer distances. In the event of falling into a body of water the children learn to swim to safety.

Stage 4 Stroke Introduction: In this class students are introduced to basic swimming strokes and work more on endurance. If your child can swim 25 yards on both front and back they are eligible for YSL (swim team).
